Our approach to protecting the planet revolves around the development of innovative technologies and products that help everyone, from customers to partners, work together to make the most of the resources and minimize the impact on the environment. Meanwhile, we are continuously working to reduce our own footprint at every stage of product development and business operations – from materials and design choices to green manufacturing and low-carbon office park operations.

As an industry leader with a global reach, we know that every small change in our product development processes can make a big difference. Thus we keep exploring best practices to reduce waste and minimize footprint from the moment a product is in prototype to its end of life.

Design

We consider environmental impact from the product design stage. We've explored different ways to optimize our security camera design, constantly seeking a balance between product performance and energy efficiency. We also use 3D simulation instead of physical prototypes in the early development of cameras to minimize waste.

Production

We introduce clean technology in manufacturing as well. For example, we have applied a no-painting process in the manufacture of our turnstiles, keeping the impact on the environment as low as possible with less discharge of waste water and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Packaging

Packaging plays a key role in keeping our products intact as they move around and providing the first look of a product to customers. We continually refine the design of packaging by maximizing the use of eco-friendly, biodegradable materials and gradually phasing out polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

In our office parks, intelligent devices equipped with optical character recognition (OCR) technology automatically collect electricity-meter readings from various locations. The data is then aggregated into an energy management system to inform refined energy saving measures. The energy management system has increased the efficiency of our office parks’ electricity consumption by 10% since its implementation.

Similar measures are being taken in our manufacturing complexes. The energy management system combines information on work shifts and meeting schedules with the IoT-detected usage status of the facility to determine if there is wasted lighting. The system automatically turns off the lights or notifies the relevant personnel to deal with it. In the plant's maintenance area alone, lighting waste has been reduced by 3.5 hours per day.

Increasing energy efficiency and using green energy are critical to reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change. That's why we prioritize and continue to implement technologies that optimize the energy consumption of our products.

By eliminating the need for an external power supply, a Solar-powered Security Camera saves approximately 80 kWh of electricity per year. As a result, a single camera can avoid around 56.7 kg of CO² emissions per year.

We continue to optimize power consumption. For example, select Ultra Series Network Cameras feature a low-power mode. The camera continues to operate, but only captures images when events occur, saving energy enough to charge around 2,100 smartphones per year.

The eDVR Series is another leap forward. Thanks to eSSD technology, an eDVR reduces energy consumption by almost 45%. The energy saved by an eDVR in one year is equivalent to the energy absorbed by a mature tree in the same period.

We also equip LED displays with an intelligent PixMaster algorithm that analyzes video content at the pixel level and dynamically adjusts brightness and contrast to enhance image quality while reducing energy consumption by around 20%.

DarkFighterS technology produces color images in ambient light as low as 0.0003 lux, significantly delaying the need for additional lighting. In total darkness, users can set motion-triggered instead of long-lit supplemental light to save energy and maintain focus.

It is a major challenge to ensure a livable environment for everyone as urbanization accelerates. Hikvision provides green solutions dedicated to cities and their surroundings, helping them achieve sustainability goals through concrete actions. To date, Hikvision has launched over 30 dedicated AIoT products and more than 200 intelligent analysis algorithms for air and water quality monitoring, smart weather observation, vehicle emission reduction, urban waste management, and other environmental protection applications.
