The amount of parcels being delivered globally has shot up in recent years, with more people using online shopping for a wider range of goods. And this trend is set to continue. Companies from freight forwarders and transporters to ecommerce and couriers need to find innovative ways to deal with the increase and still provide a high quality service. They need even more to be able to ‘track’ parcels, and this mean they need to be able to identify them.
They also need to be able to check video evidence quickly, when there are disputes about parcels or parcels are damaged/lost. As more people send parcels, so expectation rises, and dealing with complaints is time-consuming and costly. Hikvision Parcel Identification system provides the tools to track parcels effectively and make the process more efficient.
Video evidence retrieval
The parcel numbers on inbound goods are recorded and transferred to the software when they pass the code reader (camera). The parcel number is overlaid onto the image of the parcel itself. This means an operator can look back into the system when there’s a disputed parcel and retrieve the video evidence. They can see its passage through the delivery process – inbound, packing, and outbound.
The system also records the inbound and outbound times of the parcel. It even generates an alarm for the operator if a parcel does not appear within a specific timeframe, which could flag an issue.
Improving operational efficiency
The system can speed up the process, with code reading handling parcels at twice the speed of using traditional handheld scanners. A modularized system means it can be tailored exactly to what a customer needs in their infrastructure. The system is also smart enough to automatically calculate the weight of a parcel and therefore the charge for dispatch.
3rd party connections
The barcode information from the cameras is combined in the software, making it easy to output to other systems, for instance using a LAN. This means the system can be integrated seamlessly with 3rd Party servers, or hardware (including barcode scanners), using both standard and customized protocol, depending on customer need
Merchandise flow across multiple sites
In e-commerce businesses, for example, where warehouse service providers often struggle to quickly clarify who is responsible for loss or damage and can be charged enormous penalties.
Goods flow in one warehouse
With expensive or fragile merchandise, warehouse owners need to clarify responsible parties and procedures in each part of the process.
