Exploring Green and Sustainable Practices: Where do Security Companies Stand?

Asmag and Hikvision surveyed the security industry on sustainable practices. Read the results here.

With the growing global awareness of the impact of human activities on the environment, businesses across all industries are under pressure to adopt green and sustainable practices in their operations. The security industry, in particular, has a unique role to play in contributing to a more sustainable world.

In a collaborative effort to shed light on the journey to a greener and more sustainable future in the industry, Hikvision and asmag.com have come together to conduct a survey titled "Sustainability and the Security Industry".

The survey provides valuable insights into market awareness, attitudes, demands, and expectations regarding sustainability practices in the global security industry. It also examines potential regional differences in market sentiment. To simplify the analysis, respondents were categorized into two groups: Western (US, Europe, and the Middle East) and Asian (Asia and Oceania).

Let's dive right into the four pivotal findings that have the potential to transform the industry.

Market Awareness

How familiar are channel players with green and low-carbon initiatives for the security industry?

An impressive 88% of security channel players, spanning both Western and Asian regions, expressed their familiarity with green and sustainability principles. This heightened awareness mirrors a global shift towards sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Nevertheless, it is crucial to recognize the discrepancy in understanding and implementation. While 61% of respondents from the Western region have already incorporated environmentally friendly practices, only 55% of their Asian counterparts have followed suit. This suggests the existence of a notable number of channel players who are still in the initial phases of embracing sustainability practices or facing hurdles in implementation.

Importance of Green Initiatives

How important are green and low-carbon initiatives for security channel players?

A significant number of survey participants emphasized the utmost importance of green initiatives. Notably, 47% regarded them as very important, while 18% considered them somewhat important. Interestingly, 30% expressed a relatively low level of importance towards these initiatives.

This divergence in perception can be attributed to various factors. For instance, smaller businesses may find the upfront costs discouraging, and other more immediate concerns such as budget constraints and operational challenges may temporarily overshadow sustainability efforts.

Overall, the majority of respondents acknowledged the high significance of green initiatives and demonstrated a strong interest in purchasing energy-saving products for their businesses.

Market Demand

Is there market demand for green security products and solutions?

The resounding call for green security products echoes across both Western and Asian markets. Western respondents, in particular, have shown consistent demand, with 11% reporting continuous requests and an additional 33% receiving frequent orders for eco-friendly solutions.

While demand is slightly more restrained in the Asian market, with 10% consistently requesting green products and 12% doing so frequently, there is an unmistakable surge of interest. An impressive 39% of Asian channel players reported occasional requests, suggesting a growing appetite for sustainable solutions in the region.

Major Green Technologies

What are the major green technologies in the market?

The survey also provided insights into the technology trends that are influencing the industry's path toward sustainability: Solar power takes center stage as a key green technology, with survey participants predominantly citing its use in solar-powered cameras, security products, and surveillance systems.

When specifically asked if they had previous experience using solar-powered security products, the majority of respondents responded positively. However, there was a disparity between the two groups: 81% of participants from the Western region answered positively compared to only 52% of participants from the Asian region.

This finding aligns with earlier results indicating greater project involvement and overall awareness in the Western survey group.

Achieving Sustainability in the Security Industry

Achieving sustainability in the security industry requires a combination of factors, including increased demand for green products and solutions, advancements in technology, and greater awareness and adoption across different regions.

These findings underscore the industry's relentless drive towards sustainability, offering a glimpse into the promising future of green and sustainable practices in the security sector. As the industry continues to evolve, these insights will serve as a compass for navigating the path toward a greener, more sustainable future.

At Hikvision, we are fully dedicated to spearheading this transformation and taking the lead in sustainable security solutions. Our goal is not only to enhance security but also to contribute to a greener and more environmentally friendly world.
