Research Finds 41% of US Households Concerned About Device Vulnerability and Hacks

Hikvision Cybersecurity Director Covers IoT Device Vulnerabilities

Forty-one percent of U.S. households have security concerns about device vulnerability and hacks, according to new research covered in SDM magazine.

The study was conducted by market research provider Parks Associates.

Smart home and Internet-connected devices are raising levels of concern as people are challenged with securing these devices from hackers.

“Connected devices have proven valuable in extending and enhancing many elements of everyday life, including work-at-home, education, entertainment and health and wellness. But the expansion of smart home adoption and online activity also increases consumers’ vulnerability to hackers and cybercriminals. Parks Associates research has repeatedly found safety and security to be fundamental to consumers, so all players would benefit from industry-level solutions that can deliver on the security of connected devices in the home,” said Patrice Samuels, Parks Associates senior analyst, in the article.

Hikvision’s senior director of cybersecurity, Chuck Davis, covered IoT device vulnerabilities in this blog that discussed increasing security concerns as the use of connected devices grow. IoT devices encompass Internet-connected devices such as smart light bulbs, IP video cameras, washing machines, and even certain newer model vehicles.
