New Report Finds Healthcare Security Breaches Grew in 2019

Hikvision Blog Covers Cybersecurity Trends and Security Breach

Healthcare security breaches grew 65 percent in 2019 compared to 2018, according to the Security magazine article, “40 Million Americans Affected by Health Data Breaches in 2019.” The article covers the report, “The State of Cybersecurity in Healthcare,” conducted by healthcare cybersecurity provider, Fortified Health Security.

From the article: “For the first time ever, more than 400 healthcare organizations reported a breach of 500+ patient records in a single year, says the report. Despite continued efforts to make improvements, the report notes that many enterprises still struggle to stay in front of cybercriminals due to limited budgets, human capital challenges and alert fatigue.”

Additional items from the report included:

  • Hacks were cited as the leading cause of reported security breaches since the year 2016.
  • Email was the most commonly used attack vector by cybercriminals.
  • It predicted that hackers will continue to target and exploit healthcare organizations using phishing campaigns.
