This October, Hikvision is joining the National Cybersecurity Alliance and CISA in support of Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025. Centered on the theme Stay Safe Online, the campaign promotes four simple actions that anyone can take to strengthen digital security.
This Year’s Theme: Stay Safe Online
The 2025 campaign emphasizes that small actions truly add up. By focusing on the Core 4—the top areas to improve cyber-posture online—individuals and organizations can strengthen their digital security with simple, effective habits:
1. Use Strong Passwords and a Password Manager: Most passwords have flaws, which makes them at risk of exposure to threat actors. By creating strong passwords—and unique passwords for each login—you can begin to reduce your risk. Effective passwords should also be long, complex, avoid personal data, and avoid common phrases. A password manager is a great tool that stores your passwords in encrypted files so you don’t have to remember all of them.
2. Turn on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): MFA requires two or more factors—such as a password plus a code from your phone—to confirm your identity. It dramatically lowers the chances of someone else accessing your account, even if your password is stolen. Because many services don’t have MFA enabled by default, it’s important to check your account settings and turn it on wherever it’s offered.
3. Recognize and Report Scams: Scammers use texts, emails, phone calls, and social media to trick people into sending money or sharing sensitive information. From fake delivery notices to romance schemes, their tactics constantly evolve. Preventing a scam is far easier than recovering from one. Watch for red flags like urgent requests, unexpected messages, or unusual payment methods. If something feels suspicious, don’t engage or share money or personal details. Instead, report the attempt and move on. Learn more here.
4. Update Your Software: Outdated software often contains security flaws that cybercriminals can exploit. Installing the latest updates for your operating systems, apps, and devices helps patch those vulnerabilities and protect your data. Turn on automatic updates whenever possible, and don’t ignore update reminders. They’re one of the simplest, most effective defenses against online threats.
Taking small, consistent steps like these can significantly improve your cybersecurity posture. In addition to the Core 4, Hikvision recommends regularly upgrading device firmware and changing default passwords. These are two important measures that help reduce risk and strengthen overall system security.
