SDM Magazine Covers Advancements in Thermal Camera Technology

SDM magazine highlighted the tremendous advancement in thermal camera imaging in the article, “Keeping Current With Thermal Imaging Advances.”

“Two years after the pandemic-driven thermal boom, the technology is more affordable and more advanced than before — giving integrators more selling opportunities for thermal cameras,” said SDM in the article.

As pricing drops and technology improves, it makes thermal technology more accessible to dealers/integrators and end users. During the pandemic, many thermal applications were deployed for temperature screening, now additional applications that can benefit from thermal technology are becoming more common. Camera resolution is also greatly improved from earlier thermal models.

“[Recent] expanded use of thermal solutions has created new market awareness for dealers and systems integrators,” explained Trevor Sun, Hikvision product manager, in the article. “They now better understand the value and the growth potential that thermal camera technology represents to their businesses, and therefore, they’re more likely to offer and deploy these solutions.”

New uses for thermal go beyond video security. Some applications can provide both video and business intelligence, such as monitoring water levels in a water tank. Hikvision also has capabilities for early fire detection and temperature monitoring with its HeatPro thermal cameras to better protect assets.

Sun added that “Thermal [analytics] can easily identify a target and classify it as human, vehicle, or animal, based on the heat signal from each pixel. Plus, thermal camera images are reliable in all-weather conditions, delivering consistent operation despite rain, dust or fog.”
