Reduce Security Concerns While Working Remotely with Tips from Hikvision
Cybersecurity attacks have increased since the pandemic started, as threat actors attempt to take advantage of an increase in remote workers and people’s fear about the virus. Cybersecurity Insiders (CI) offers tip to reduce security concerns by using VPNs in their story, “VPNs for Secure Remote Work: The Do’s and Don’ts.”
Using a virtual private network (VPN) ensures that work-related traffic goes through the company network before it gets to the Internet. This means that all of the company’s security tools are working to make sure that your computer doesn’t get infected or attacked.
From the CI article: “The unique thing about VPNs is that they are applicable across platforms. As the remote work landscape evolves and changes, this versatility is important. For instance, when workers must use their phones or tablets to carry out responsibilities, they should use a VPN as they would with their computers.”
The article provides several tips to enhance the use of VPNs, including:
- Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): MFA requires a user to provide an additional means of authentication or verification, in addition to entering a username and password, in order to log into an account or website. In addition to PCs, employees should enable security protocols on their own devices, which may include biometrics such as a fingerprint authentication for smartphones and tablets.
- Ensure Software is Up to Date: If left unpatched, software can leave systems open to vulnerabilities. Some VPNs may provide automated alerts and reminders to update software, while others may require a manual check in and update.
