Hikvision Tips: Phishing and Addressing Security Concerns
Security magazine covers the top cybersecurity concerns for remote workers in the article, “The Top 10 Employer Cybersecurity Concerns For Employees Regarding Remote Work.”
From the article: “Employers are responding to COVID-19 by allowing, and even mandating remote working. Companies ranging from Amazon, Microsoft and Google to local design shops have asked employees to work from home. While increasingly common even before the virus, remote work brings its own unique set of cybersecurity challenges.”
Three insights from the top ten list to improve cybersecurity included:
- Recent coronavirus-related phishing scams: Hikvision covered recent scams in this blog. The Security magazine article stated that cybercriminals are exploiting the virus with mass emails that appear to be from “legitimate health organizations.”
- Workers should only use secure networks: Free public Wi-Fi that does not require a password leaves employees at risk of hack. Using a secure Wi-Fi connection with a VPN can improve cybersecurity.
- IT departments should patch often: The article recommends patching as a best practice that is critical while a greater number of employees are working remote. Patching includes supporting computer programs, including fixes for bugs and vulnerabilities to improve functionality and security.
