Hikvision on the Importance of Data Backup to Enhance Security, Reduce Concerns
Pandemic-fueled economic uncertainty and data backup shortcomings are posing a threat to digital transformation and creating security concerns for CXOs (chief experience officers). Report findings are details in the Security magazine article, “58% of data backups are failing, creating data protection challenges.”
Research for the “Data Protection Report 2021” was conducted by software company Veeam. More than 3,000 IT decision makers across global organizations were surveyed for their response to IT challenges and more.
“In response to the pandemic, we have seen organizations accelerate DX [digital transformation] initiatives by years and months in order to stay in business. However, the way data is managed and protected continues to undermine them. Businesses are being held back by legacy IT and outdated data protection capabilities, as well as the time and money invested in responding to the most urgent challenges posed by COVID-19. Until these inadequacies are addressed, genuine transformation will continue to evade organizations,” said CTO & SVP of Veeam, Danny Allan, in the article.
The report highlighted a gap in data protection. Fourteen percent of data isn’t backed up at all, while 58 percent of attempted data backups fail. This exacerbates security concerns and leaves organizational data exposed to risk. Other report findings detailed in the article include:
- 95 percent of organizations experienced unexpected outages in the last 12 months
- 30 percent of CXOs say they’ve slowed or stopped digital transformation initiatives in the last 12 months
- Organizations are moving rapidly away from on-premise backups to cloud-based backups managed by a service provider
