Hikvision Blogs Provide Insights into Password Hack Prevention
Changing default passwords and instituting complex passwords can help reduce hack risk, according the article in ZDNet.com, “These are the first passwords hackers will try when attacking your device.”
From the article: “Security company F-Secure has a set of 'honeypot' or decoy servers set up in countries around the world to detect patterns in cyberattacks. The vast majority of traffic to these servers is a result of their discovery during scans of the internet by hackers looking for devices to access. The company said it has seen a significant increase in the traffic to these honeypots in the second half of last year.”
F-secure found that the top password used to hack a vulnerable IoT device was “admin.” Other default passwords F-secure uncovered included:
- 12345
- Default
- Password
- root
Other common hacks included factory default passwords, which should always be changed to more complex, hard-to-hack passwords.
