Hikvision’s Work from Home Cyber Series: 3 Tips for Working Securely During COVID-19

Hikvision Covers Coronavirus-Related Attacks, Hacks & Vulnerabilities

Hikvision’s senior director of cybersecurity, Chuck Davis, has written numerous recent blogs on the rise in COVID-19 phishing attacks, hacks and vulnerability exploits. Since more people are working from home during the pandemic, we’ve provided the three tips below to help you work safely from home.

  1. Learn about phishing attacks and expect them since COVID-19 themed phishing attacks and malware are prevalent and increasing in numbers. Here’s an article about advanced phishing techniques to help you learn more.

  2. Use your company virtual private network (VPN), especially if you connect to a Wi-Fi network that’s not yours (neighbor, relative, coffee shop). The VPN ensures that all of your work traffic, and likely all of your network traffic, goes through the company network before it gets to the Internet. This means that all of the company’s security tools are working to make sure that your computer doesn’t get infected or attacked.

  3. Firmware Updates: Log into your home router and check to see if there are any firmware updates. There likely are and unfortunately, many routers do not update themselves. Try to remember to do this at least a few times per year if not every month. And, for your next router, be sure it supports automatic updates.
