Hikvision Senior Director of Cybersecurity Covers Network Segmentation as First Line of Defense to Prevent Hacks, Security Breaches, in News Article

Hikvision’s senior director of cybersecurity, Chuck Davis, covers network segmentation as first line of defense in a SecurityInfoWatch.com (SIW) article that highlights basics for integrators to better understand how segmentation plays a role in preventing data security breaches. Davis’s article also appears in the April issue of Security Business magazine.

Network segmentation helps to isolate cybersecurity problems. For example, if a laptop gets infected with malware, it will not be able to get to the IoT network because of the firewall protecting IoT. Segmentation helps to prevent a problem in one area from infecting the rest of a network.  It’s an important tool to help small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) prepare to deal with cyber threats.

“Unfortunately, the notion that a small business is not at risk of cyberattack is all too common. One report found that more than 67 percent of companies with fewer than 1,000 employees having experienced a cyber-attack. The hard truth is cybercriminals do not discriminate against small businesses, and attacks against SMBs are on the rise. 4iQ’s 2019 Identity Breach Report found a 424 percent increase in cyberattacks specifically focused on small business,” said Hikvision’s Davis, in the article.

Davis outlines tips in the article for SMBs to improve cybersecurity by improving networking capabilities for integrators, using the “flat network” approach, and implementing basic network segmentation.
