Catch shooting stars: Preserving the Geminids' brilliance with technology
Celebrated as one of the "Big Three" meteor showers of the Northern Hemisphere, the Geminids are a celestial feast that stargazers anticipate all year. Known for their reliable and vibrant colors, and exceptional brightness, they offer an unmissable spectacle. However, the true allure lies in their transience — a breathtaking streak that vanishes into the darkness in the blink of an eye.
To capture this fleeting romance before it fades into memory, Hikvision joined forces with the Tsinghua Astronomy Society to deploy cameras with ColorVu technology through our STAR Program for Social Good. This collaboration broke the barriers of expensive astrophotography, proving that professional-grade observation is accessible.
Where the human eye might miss a detail, Hikvision’s technology excels. The camera transforms the pitch-black wilderness into a vivid laboratory. By combining the 1/1.2” Ultra-Sensor with an F1.0 ultra-wide aperture lens, the device acts as a wide-open pupil, absorbing vast amounts of light to reveal the cosmic pulse. Meanwhile, the AI-ISP algorithm works silently in the background, optimizing color to ensure that every streak is recorded with scientific precision. By merging technology with artistry, we ensure that while the Geminids may fade, their brilliance is captured forever.
