In April, Hikvision published its 2024 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, in which we introduced our THRIVE sustainability philosophy for the first time. Following our latest ESG practices guided by ‘Tech for Good’, this blog explores further how Hikvision is implementing the philosophy across our 5 focus areas to create a better, more sustainable world.

Hikvision’s commitment to ESG is underpinned by our THRIVE sustainability philosophy. With "Tech for Good" at its core, THRIVE focuses on Harmony, Reliability, Integrity, Value chain, and the Environment. Each area reflects our commitment to a specific aspect for a better future. In this blog, we explore how we have embraced this philosophy throughout 2024 by highlighting key performances and achievements.

Harmony: Creating harmonious workplaces and giving back to society

Hikvision upholds a ‘people-oriented’ principle, fostering supportive and inclusive workplaces and abundant advancement opportunities for our employees. Beyond just caring for our teammates, we also endeavor to benefit our shared world. That’s why we launched the STAR Program for Social Good, through which we leverage our technology to create lasting values for the community, environment, and culture.

In 2024:

Hikvision employed 59,689 people worldwide.
We invested RMB 49.95 million (approx. $6.96 million) in improving workplace safety.
We spent RMB 15.32 million (approx. $2.13 million) on training people.
100% of employees were provided with financial and medical insurance.
We partnered with 30+ non-profit organizations through the STAR Program to protect wildlife, nature, and culture.

Reliability: Advancing innovation while upholding cybersecurity and quality

As a company dedicated to innovation, Hikvision aims to harness technology to drive positive changes in society. By leveraging AIoT insights, we push the boundaries of what’s possible and, therefore, contribute to a better future. As we strengthen cybersecurity and data protection measures, we strive to deliver high-quality and reliable products, solutions, and services that evolve with changing needs.

In 2024:

We invested RMB 11.86 billion (approx. $1.65 million) in R&D, accounting for 12.83% of the 2024 annual revenue.
We employed 28,272 R&D and technical professionals, accounting for 47.37% of our total workforce.
We were granted 2,800+ new patents.
We created 26 new cybersecurity training courses for employees.
0 mass breaches of customer personal data.

Integrity: Championing compliance and prudence

Hikvision is firmly committed to the core value of ‘championing integrity and compliance for sustainable development’. We diligently adhere to local laws and regulations, uphold business ethics, and maintain a strong sense of self-discipline. We also resolutely oppose unfair competition and other unethical practices. This commitment fosters mutual respect and firm trust between Hikvision and our stakeholders.

In 2024:

99.92% of Hikvision employees signed the ‘Commitment to Integrity’.
100% of employees received anti-corruption, anti-commercial bribery, and compliance training.
0 cases that presented a significant risk of corruption.
0 cases of litigation, investigations, or penalties associated with monopoly or unfair competition.

Value Chain: Collaborating towards mutual success

At Hikvision, we believe that sustainability is a team effort, guiding us to create long-term value through collaboration with our partners. By enhancing sustainable supply chain management and strengthening partnerships within our ecosystem, we endeavor to join hands with our partners and achieve mutual success.

In 2024:

We conducted on-site sustainability audits for 100% of our new suppliers, reviewing both their environmental and labor practices.
We conducted conflict minerals due diligence for 100% of our new material suppliers.
0 suppliers were found to pose significant negative environmental or social impacts.
70 suppliers were evaluated for their eco-friendly practices, and 6 were awarded the green awards.

Environment: Pursuing low-carbon and green development

At Hikvision, we contribute to green development by leveraging secure and efficient AIoT solutions to optimize resource usage and reduce carbon emissions across the entire value chain. Our goal is to create a low-carbon, sustainable business ecosystem that positively impacts the environment, helping to protect our shared planet and a greener future for coming generations.

In 2024:

We purchased green electricity certificates representing 18,000 mWh of renewable electricity.
Our solar panels produced 15,900 mWh of photovoltaic (PV) output.
1.5M kWh of electricity was saved by adopting low-carbon techniques and equipment.
We conducted PFV calculations for 103 product models
We expanded its use of sustainable ‘dark warehouses’ to 80,000+ square meters.
100% of hazardous waste was disposed of properly and legally.
We achieved 100% compliance for wastewater, exhaust emissions, and noise management.
