Hikvision Dealer Computer Geeks Brings Enterprise Video Security to Opendoor Church in North Carolina

HikCentral Professional simplifies security system management with panoramic full-color video cameras and touch-free access control

Opendoor Church in Greenville, N.C., sits on several acres of land surrounded by trees. Its services have grown to meet the community, and its development plans reflect that growth. North Carolina-based dealer, Computer Geeks, helped them expand a mismatched security system into a comprehensive enterprise video security system that is now centrally managed using the HikCentral Professional management system.

Challenge: Complex Legacy System, Low-Quality Imaging and High Licensing Fees

The church's former security setup used a fragmented camera system that necessitated approximately six different mobile apps for management. Despite offering door access, it involved a specific app for access and another for overall credential management. This outdated system had low-quality images and high licensing fees, making it inadequate for Opendoor's evolving services and expanding infrastructure.

This legacy system was extended as needed without a comprehensive plan in place for expansion. When Computer Geeks consulted with the church, they proposed and implemented a unified and scalable plan and building scheme wired for an enterprise video security and access control system. HikCentral enabled unified management of all security systems via the software client for ease of management and operational efficiency.

Solution: Simplified System Management with HikCentral Professional, AcuSense Cameras, and Touch-Free Access Control

The new Hikvision enterprise-grade security system establishes Opendoor for reliable security and access control that is easily scalable for their growth. The church also plans to add a k-8 section to its existing daycare and a senior living facility. In addition, expansion plans include the development of a baseball field and community recreation center.

This multi-phase project began with Opendoor Church’s current sanctuary, administrative offices, and parking lots at the primary Greenville location. The church also has two remote centers in other parts of the state: a downtown worship center near East Carolina University and a nearby daycare facility.

HikCentral Professional enables Opendoor Church leadership and security management greater visibility into remote operations at these locations and enhance versatility in managing all sites simultaneously. For example, if a staff member or parent shows up at a remote site, Opendoor staff can use the intercom function to view and allow authorized staff or parents access to the site with remote unlock through the call box.

Hikvision’s Multi-Modal, Touch-Free Biometrics Reader was installed to enable multi-factor authentication using face and M1-cards. This reader features a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen, a 2 MP wide-angle lens, and two-way audio. It can recognize faces from a distance of .98 to 4.9 feet with more than 99% accuracy.

“The client loves the Hikvision touch-free access control readers because it integrated so well with their employee onboarding process. They would take an ID badge photo and can now upload that image into HikCentral for streamlined entry and exit management,” said Michael Bryan, IT Technician at Computer Geeks.

Hikvision’s Panoramic Cameras with ColorVu technology for full-color video both day and night. These cameras use Hikvision’s innovative image fusion technology, which provides the smooth fusion of images from two lenses into one crystal clear shot for wide area coverage. With Motion Detection 2.0 fueled by deep learning, these cameras can detect the movement of humans and vehicles with notifications, reducing time spent searching video playback with smart search functions. These cameras also feature AcuSense technology to reduce false alarms and proactive deterrence with audio and a strobe light.

The combination of the HikCentral Professional to centrally manage a scalable system, paired with a touch-free biometrics reader for access control and panoramic full-color cameras delivered a comprehensive security system to support Opendoor church now and in the future.
