Hikvision Senior Cybersecurity Director to Present Cybersecurity Educational Session, “Phishing and Malware and Botnets: What to Look Out for in the COVID Era,” at PSA TEC Conference

Hikvision’s senior director of cybersecurity, Chuck Davis, will be presenting the cybersecurity educational session, “Phishing and Malware and Botnets: What to Look Out for in the COVID Era,” at the upcoming PSA TEC conference being held in-person in Denver and virtually during May 2021.

TEC is an annual conference hosted by the world’s largest systems integrator consortium PSA Security that provides educational and networking events for security integrators. TEC 2021 will be held live in-person at the Sheraton Downtown Denver from May 3-5 and virtually from May 3-6, 2021.

Davis will present his session virtually on Thursday, May 6 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. MST. The presentation will cover the massive increase in phishing-related cybersecurity attacks brought up since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The session will provide a comprehensive overview of phishing:

Phishing is the No. 1 way that companies are compromised. Successful phishing attacks are often inventive, taking advantage of timely topics, and issues of concern to their victims. For example, March and April phishing attacks are often related to taxes, while October attacks may have to do with an election. COVID-19 has presented new opportunities for malicious hackers and more dangers for businesses. Add to that the number of people who are now working from home, without office security controls, and phishing attacks has greatly proliferated. To protect our businesses and those of our customers, it is important for integrators to understand how cybersecurity attacks happen, how to identify an attack and how to avoid becoming a victim.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to witness advanced phishing attack methods not seen by most people by participating in a mock attack. Participants will be able to see how one single computer at the mock security installation company can be used by an attacker to pivot and infect other systems within the company and how the attack develops from there. The course will cover preventative measures against phishing attacks and provide employee educational resources for attendees to bring back to their workplace and quickly implement.

Davis’ presentation will meet 3 Learning Objectives:

  1. See how easy it is to be fooled into a phishing attack.
  2. Understand how a phishing attack can escalate into a larger attack on your company and beyond.
  3. Know where to find tangible educational resources to bring back to your workplace and implement today.
