Research Surveys Global Business Leaders on Security Concerns & Risks Expected Over the Next Decade

Hikvision on Pandemic-Driven Cyber Threats & Phishing Security Concerns for Remote Workers

The SecurityInfoWatch.com article, “Business leaders' top 10 risk concerns over the next decade,” covers results of a survey that asked global business leaders about top security concerns and risks facing their organizations.

Consulting firm Protiviti and North Carolina State University surveyed more than 1,000 global executives in a broad range of industries, and used the information in the 9th annual report, “Executive Perspectives on Top Risks for 2021 and 2030.”

Risks and policies related to COVID-19 and uncertain economic conditions that could affect market demand were some of the top concerns express by executives in the study.

From the article: “Amid these near-term headwinds, when asked about top concerns through 2030, business leaders cite challenges that ultimately ladder up to talent. High ranking risks—including the adoption of technology that requires new or upgraded skills, rapid innovation that threatens business models and the reimagining of creative strategies—point to a need to attract and retain top talent and invest in reskilling and upskilling workforces to ensure agility and resilience in the future.”

Pandemic-related policies and their potential business impacts and economic conditions related to growth were the top two leading risks identified by respondents for 2021. Helping employees gain new skills to adapt to the increasing adoption of digital solutions also ranked in the top five. Other risks included privacy management, cybersecurity threats, and retaining talent.

"If there is any risk that all organizations across industries and geographies must maintain focus on, it's cybersecurity and privacy. While the areas that businesses will need to address may change as they transform their business models and increase their resiliency to face the future confidently, cybersecurity and privacy threats will remain a constant and should be at or near the top of the list. These threats have been top risks for quite some time, and they aren't going away,” said Patrick Scott, EVP at Protiviti, in the article.

Survey respondents were asked to rate the impact of several risks on their organization into the next decade. Top risks identified for the year 2030 included training employees for digital technology adoption, regulatory changes and the rapid “speed of disruptive innovation.”

Hikvision covered security concerns and using a Zero Trust network model to reduce risk in this blog. One COVID-related risk is hackers’ focus on remote workers, with the use of phishing emails to gain sensitive information or infect systems with malware. Around since at least 1995, phishing is used to trick people into providing credit card information, login IDs and passwords, and to gain access to your computer, protected systems and/or networks.
