Cyber Research Firm Uncovers Security Breach Involving More Than 250K Records

Hikvision Tips to Prevent Security Breach and Other Concerns

Cyber research firm vpnMentor uncovered a security breach involving more than 250,000 records, according to the Security magazine article, “Data Breach Report: British Printing Press Leaks Confidential Material and More.”

The U.K.-based document printing company, Doxzoo, has been servicing global customers since 2014, according to the report. The company’s clientele includes elite universities, U.S. and U.K. military branches, as well as numerous companies.

Data affected by the breach included:

  • Personally identifiable information (PII): This is data that could be used to identify a specific individual. Examples include Social Security Number, driver’s license, and bank account information.
  • Payment card industry (PCI) information, including payment method and the last four digits of payment method used.
  • Copyrighted publications such as full-length books and screenplays.

From the vpnMentor site: “Sometimes the extent of a data breach and the owner of the data are obvious, and the issue quickly resolved. But rare are these times. Most often, we need days of investigation before we understand what’s at stake or who’s leaking the data.”
