Energy production and distribution is a hot topic these days, with everyone from governments to households trying to figure out how to get the energy they need. This means efficient energy production is key, maximizing the output of the sources we have. One source that’s gaining popularity is ‘green’ energy – wind farming and solar parks. Access control management

A power plant operator needs to pay particular attention to access control – to maintain security, but also to prevent accidents with dangerous equipment or high voltages. Access is partitioned - management for both staff and vehicles.

For vehicle Hikvision can provide UVSS and automated entrance & exit systems using ANPR, so only authorized vehicles are given entry. An image from the under-vehicle scanner will be linked with its plate number, so security personnel can check if it includes anything dangerous from historical information in a database.

When it comes to employee entry, different technologies can be applied for different scenarios. For example, a card reader for general access; a password for a more controlled area; and face or fingerprint recognition for highly restricted areas. There’s also door controls, and swing barriers for different structure conditions.

For traditional power plants, including thermal, biomass and hydro-power, perimeter protection systems prevent a security risk even before it gets to key areas. With Hikvision solutions, the linkage with an audio broadcast system will automatically drive away intruders or animals approaching.

For new power stations, such as wind towers and solar parks, perimeter protection is a must, due to their location, which is typically in a more remote, ‘field’ environment. A perimeter protection system will warn intruders before they enter, and also send an alarm to the operation center. Hikvision’s Solar Powered perimeter protection devices can be a boom to these remote areas – the use of solar power means there’s no need to ‘grid’ power.

Fire prevention is crucial for any power plant. Fuel/gas systems, boilers, turbines, piping, valves, and pumps can all get overheated, making a potential fire and operation risk. Hikvision thermal cameras provide real-time temperature measurement and send an alarm if there is any temperature exception. HikCentral Professional or other integration software can also produce operation reports, based on temperature data, to analyze the working status of these key facilities.

Hikvision has diverse cameras of size and outlook to meet the needs of diverse power plants. These can be used to monitor anything from an electric cabinet to a cable tunnel or booster outdoor station.

Intelligent recognition

It’s important in a power plant to patrol regularly to check the running status of all devices in the plant. All data from meters will be collected and analyzed to avoid breakdown and outages. Hikvision cameras help by providing real-time onsite pictures to the control room, which can reduce the staffing need. What’s more, AI cameras support customized algorithm training to read the meters, which means employees can get the reading directly from the control room.
