Light is obviously a crucial element for cameras to see clearly in dark environments and at night. But sometimes it’s not needed – concerns about costs, light pollution, and attracting attention to a camera can mean users do not necessarily always want full lighting.

Hikvision's new Smart Hybrid Camera employs infrared Confocal lens technology and ColorVu, using light only when necessary, like at night or when detecting movement from people or vehicles. It has three supplement light modes to choose from: IR mode, with a black and white image; white light mode, with a complete full color image; and smart mode, which uses IR when there are no events and switches to white light when an event is detected, making them appear in full color for detail.
