Successful perimeter vigilance in the Logistics sector

Problems encountered on the customer site

Security challenges for logistics platforms

Our GEODIS customer, the world leader in transport and logistics, operates in warehouses of various sizes containing valuable goods. The expected security for these sites goes beyond just protecting buildings. It must take into account the entire site with the customer’s trailers and those of subcontractors that constitute external storage spaces. Tractors must also be considered with their fuel and equipment (e.g. catalytic pots) as well as any type of merchandise stored on the site, which can sometimes be sensitive or even dangerous materials.

A globalized approach to the perimeter protection of each site is therefore essential to effectively prevent intrusions and avoid cascading damage: cost of theft or damage, operating losses, vehicle unavailability, complexity of operations to restore operational order, financial penalties in contracts and insurance, image of the company degraded with its contractors, or even risk to staff.

Limitations of previous solutions

Our customer had implemented various external detection solutions in the past in connection with remote monitoring. However, these initiatives proved to be unsatisfactory: in fact, some conventional electronic systems ultimately represented a significant cost (implantation, frequent and long maintenance) and, moreover, did not offer an efficient response time for remote monitoring in the event of intrusion. Other systems, based on natively integrated video detection in cameras, had very high rates of false alerts, with omissions as well. Camera views were often inadequate and unfortunately the site sometimes featured unprotected areas.

Our client frequently managed disputes or even disputes with its remote monitoring providers that were implicated for lack of reaction, overbilling and ineffective action plans.

Strategic choice: a solution that combines Foxstream smart video analytics, Hikvision thermal cameras, and remote monitoring

Technical performance

Our customer’s choice was based on Foxstream’s intelligent video analysis (FoxBox or FoxVigi solution as the case may be), to which Hikvision thermal cameras are connected. The Foxstream solution ensures not only intrusion detection but also the real-time transmission of alarms and intrusion videos, directly to telemonitors.

The technical performance of the Foxstream solution, which analyzes each camera stream from an external box or server, was highlighted by our client during its penetration tests. These tests validated the absence of omission and effective real-time detection, all with a significant reduction in false alerts.

Foxstream intelligent video analysis immediately transmits the alert and video of the intrusion to the telemonitor. The latter easily removes doubt in real time, and can launch without losing a second the planned intervention plan, as close as possible to the moment of the intrusion.

The Hikvision thermal camera offers one of the best and most stable thermal image quality on the market, with a widely recognized cost/efficiency ratio. The 10-year warranty on detectors and 5-year warranty on the entire camera are an important complementary point in the choice. This contributes to the effectiveness of Foxstream video analysis, which continuously analyzes the flow of each camera, day or night, and regardless of outside temperature and weather conditions.

Adaptability according to the sites

For our customer, one of the strengths of the Foxstream solution lies in the excellent performance/cost ratio. The range of solutions allows it to equip itself with a powerful and efficient system while remaining in line with its budget and needs, specific for each of its sites. The FoxBox range meets site constraints without complexity, up to 15 cameras according to the FoxBox model. The FoxVigi solution is more aimed at large sites requiring interfacing with a video supervisor (VMS) in a local security PC, and sites with a complex outdoor environment to protect.

The wide range of Hikvision focal lengths and resolutions makes it possible to determine the most suitable thermal camera. Finally, the FoxTool study and simulation tool, provided by Foxstream, makes it possible to finely model each site and precisely choose Hikvision camera models, for installation without dead zone or shadow zone and respecting the useful ranges. Thanks to this tool, the customer ensures the proper positioning of his cameras for optimal operation and security.

Rapid deployment

For each project, the Foxstream teams move to conduct the study of the site desired by our customer who then integrates it into his deployment project to commission his installer. The deployment of the video is then very fast. Since Foxstream solutions and Hikvision cameras are all available from major distributors on the market, each installer is sure to be supplied as soon as possible. Foxstream accompanies each installer regardless of the solution chosen (FoxBox or FoxVigi), from installation to operational start-up with the remote monitor, and this throughout the duration of use of the solution.

A regular assessment is ensured with our client’s security teams to have a complete vision of the state of its equipment.

Testimonial

The results obtained after the implementation of the solution exceeded the expectations of our client. According to Thierry IMBAULT’s summary, our client, the national manager of GEODIS’ security systems, testifies: “The number of telemonitor reports has increased from 3 pages to 3 lines per week. The new solution allowed me to acquire tranquility in our relationship with the telemonitor. It is really efficient: I regularly do penetration tests on some of our sites, and I can not foil it. I particularly appreciate Foxstream’s involvement ahead of the project, which is quite rare for a manufacturer used to marketing its products through distribution channels.”

Benefits

With varying budgets depending on the size of the site, our client was able to quickly implement a perimeter vigilance solution adapted to each of its sites. With a guarantee in detection and few false alarms, the remote monitor regains confidence and efficiency. Our client thus ensures tranquility in the relationship with his partners.

In the end, the Foxstream and Hikvision pairing allows our client to increase the perimeter security level of equipped sites and drastically reduce the financial impacts of malicious intrusions.
