New handheld thermal monocular presented to outdoor market
March 07, 2019
Hikvision, the world’s leading supplier of innovative video surveillance products and solutions, has launched a new Handheld Observational Thermal Monocular camera into a new outdoor market. This handheld monocular camera (DS-2TS03 series) will enable outdoor enthusiasts, like hikers, birdwatchers and hunters, to be able to ‘see’ animals, even at night and in bad weather conditions.

The camera’s focal lens produces a crystal clear image on an OLED screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The series includes three models – with 15mm, 25mm and 35mm focal lens options.

With 382 x 288 thermal resolution and a highly sensitive thermal detector, murky dark vistas can be transformed, clearly showing detected heat sources up to 1029m away (for the 35mm model). Targets can be recognised at up to 257m away (for the 35mm model).

Users will be able to spot animals at dusk and night, when animals tend to be more active. It also works well in fog, snow or other bad weather conditions. Features like hotspot tracking and target ranging will make sure they don’t miss an encounter. With the ability to see more, they will be able to engage further with nature, maximising their experience.

They will also be able to share their experiences – a handy wi-fi connection means they can also see the footage from the thermal camera on a second screen, like a mobile or tablet. Users can also connect a phone with the camera to receive footage in real time, enabling them to remotely operate the device with a smartphone.

Other features include:
- Ample storage: 16G SD card
- Wide operating temperature range: - 30 °C to 55 °C (-22 °F to 131 °F)
- Up to 5 hours battery life, and external USB charging
- Water-resistant to IP67.
“There are a lot of people who love experiencing the great outdoors, from hikers and birdwatchers to hunters and rangers, says Marcel Wiechmann, Thermal Product Manager at Hikvision. “The Monocular brings the latest thermal technology into a portable form, allowing them all to get more out of their experience by being able to spot things they would otherwise have missed.”
