Tips to Boost Cybersecurity for Employees, Reduce Security Concerns, Vulnerabilities & Threats

Hikvision Recommendations for Secure Online Shopping: Reduce Security Concerns and Vulnerabilities

As employees continue to work remotely and online shopping grows, cybersecurity risks remain a threat. Security magazine offers tips to boost cybersecurity and reduce potential concerns, cyber threats and vulnerabilities for employees in its article, “A remote holiday season: Top tips to boost security as cyber hygiene diminishes.”

With employees work virtually from anywhere, the likelihood is they will browse websites—some of these sites may pose a security threat for phishing, malware, or other security concerns, according to the article.

From the article: “To add to the complexity [of the current situation], most devices, whether corporate-issued or personally owned, are being used off-network, which often means a loss of visibility and control, and subsequently an increased risk for breach. When corporate assets, network applications, and cloud services are being accessed by under-secured or unmanaged endpoints, the cybersecurity threat surface created by the work-from-home phenomenon broadens. Without new strategies and tools, organizations are likely to fall victim to a higher number of cybersecurity breaches, which could take longer to detect and be costlier and more complex to recover from.”

The story provides several recommendations to boost cybersecurity, including:

  • Help employees connect to the company Virtual Private Network (VPN): If VPNs are overloaded employees may attempt to complete tasks without connecting to it. A simple solution can be to increase VPN capacity. While VPNs are helpful, they do have some drawbacks. Read this Hikvision article for tips to enhance VPN security.

  • Use a Zero Trust network approach: The article describes Zero Trust as giving users “access to what is required to complete their job duties,” with administrators assigning applications by user. This reduces risk by limiting the spread of malware throughout a network, for example. Hikvision’s senior director of cybersecurity covered Zero Trust networks in this Hikvision blog.

Using certain tools and tips, employees can shop online with more security, reducing an organization’s concerns about threats and vulnerabilities. Read this Hikvision blog that outlines several recommendations, such as shopping on secure websites and using a password manager: “Part 1: Secure Online Shopping: Insights from Hikvision’s Senior Cybersecurity Director to Reduce Security Concerns and Cyber Vulnerabilities.”
