Security Magazine on Cloud Concerns Related to COVID-19 Crisis, Possible Hacks

Hikvision Senior Director of Cybersecurity on the Rise in COVID-19 Phishing Hacks, Plus Cyber Tip of the Week

Security magazine covered concerns, including possible hacks, related to cloud security as organizations comply with coronavirus stay-at-home recommendations in the article, “Fugue Survey Finds Widespread Concern Over Cloud Security Risks during the COVID-19 Crisis.”

The story outlined study results conducted by cloud infrastructure provider, Fugue, and summarized in its 2020 report, “State of Cloud Security.”

“What our survey reveals is that cloud misconfiguration not only remains the number one cause of data [security] breaches in the cloud, the rapid global shift to 100 percent distributed teams is creating new risks for organizations and opportunities for malicious actors. Knowing your cloud infrastructure is secure at all times is already a major challenge for even the most sophisticated cloud customers, and the current crisis is compounding the problem,” said Phillip Merrick, CEO of Fugue, in the article.

Findings from the survey include:

  • 84 percent of respondents are concerned that they have been a victim of hack, but are unable to identify details.

  • 92 percent are worried about vulnerabilities related to cloud misconfiguration and security breach.

  • 43 percent claim that training term members to correctly identify and fix cloud configurations is challenging, while 39 percent say finding enough cloud security experts is a problem.

The article also found that lack of awareness and lack of policies surrounding cloud security accounted for 52 percent of cloud misconfigurations. Click this link to read the full article.
