Hikvision on Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities & Protecting Your Home Router
Security magazine covered a new report in its article, “Data breach reports down 52% in the first half of 2020; Number of records exposed increase to 27 billion.” The research from the “2020 Mid-Year Data Breach QuickView Report” was conducted by cybersecurity provider, Risk Based Security.
“The striking differences between 2020 and prior years brings up many questions. Why is the breach count low compared to prior years? What is driving the growth in the number of records exposed? And perhaps most importantly, is this a permanent change in the data breach landscape?” said EVP of Risk Based Security, Inga Goddijn, in the article.
One factor behind the data is the coronavirus pandemic that’s fueled new cyber threats and scams.
The report highlighted key insights related to security breach trends, including:
- More than 27 billion records were exposed in the first six months of 2020.
- Two of the largest security breaches ever reported were during Q2 of 2020.
- Exposed payment card details in the first half of 2020 totaled more than 90 million records. Social Security numbers, financial account records, and birthdates were also exposed during this timeframe.
